Chaotic behavior in planar channeling radiation from charged particles

Damping of channeling radiation and the periodicity of the crystal lattice field are considered. The equation of motion for the particles is simplified to the pendulum equation with weak damping and excitation terms. The chaotic behavior of the system is discussed and the Melnikov function is calculated for several cases. The threshold for chaos is found and possible approaches to chaotic condition are considered.
