Preparation of 90. Kappa. superconductor YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7-. delta. / via oxide precursors BaCuO/sub 2/ and Y/sub 2/Cu/sub 2/O/sub 5/

A new method that takes advantage of the phase diagram in the system Y/sub 2/O/sub 3/-BaO-CuO has been applied to prepare a single phase of the 90{Kappa} superconductor YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7-{delta}/ from the oxide precursors BaCuO/sub 2/ and Y/sub 2/Cu/sub 2/O/sub 5/. Microstructural analysis proves that this precursor method would be a more effective synthetic route to prepare single-phase samples than the conventional method using Y/sub 2/O/sub 3/, BaCO/sub 3/ and CuO as starting reagents. Moreover, sintered pellets exhibits c-axis orientation.
