Technical report of California standards for ambient air quality and motor vehicle exhaust

Book ·
OSTI ID:5372100
Air quality standards for several pollutants were first adopted in the State of California in December, 1959, by the State Board of Public Health. This action was in accordance with the requirements of Section 426.1 of the Health and Safety Code. Data on the compounds for which standards were set or considered at that time were presented in 1960 in the Technical Report of California Standards for Ambient Air Quality and Motor Vehicle Exhaust. In August, 1961, Supplement Number 1 - Crankcase Emission Standard was published. Since the first standards were set, data on other pollutants have been under review to determine the feasibility of and need for setting additional air quality standards. During 1961, particular attention was directed at possible standards for ethylene, hydrogen sulfide and hydrogen fluoride. On March 16, 1962, the State Board of Public Health adopted standards for ethylene and hydrogen sulfide, and a footnote to the Table of Standards was included on hydrogen fluoride. The data and information on the three compounds that were considered are presented in this supplement to the Original Technical Report.
