This is a progress report on the activities of the Board on Mathematical Sciences (BMS) of the Commission on Physical Sciences, Mathematics, and Applications, National Research Council (NRC), for the second year of the referenced grant for Board core support, and a request to the Department of Energy for the third year of funding in the amount of $32,390 under that grant for the period August 1, 1991--July 31, 1992. As this request is for the third year of funding for activities covered by a three-year proposal and award, this report is limited to an update of progress over the second funding year. Some of the projects discussed are: Number theory; the import of mathematics; some of the spatial statistics and image processing; and BMS strategic plan.
