Path of the giant: Part I. Gasoline marketing in the United States

Journal Article · · Energy Detente; (United States)
OSTI ID:5370720
The largest and most-complex gasoline market in the world is changing dramatically: not by volume, since 1983, but as to structure. Refiners, distributors, and retail dealers are shrinking in number but growing in terms of marketing flexibility and economy of scale. In this issue, some of the results of massive contraction of a once-overbuilt gasoline-distribution industry in the throes of maturation are reviewed. This issue, a double issue covering the entire month of August, also contains the following: (1) ED refining netback data for late August 1986 for US Gulf and West Coasts, Rotterdam, and Singapore; and (2) ED fuel price/tax series for countries of both the Eastern and Western Hemispheres. 3 figures, 6 tables.
