Materials used in construction of wet scrubbing systems for combating air pollution are a significant factor in the successful operation of such equipment. Several different types of scrubbers, including partuclate removal devices and gas absorbers, are discussed, and the criteria involved in selecting various construction materials are explained. the two basic mechanisms employed by wet scrubbing systems-impaction to capture dust particulates and absorption to transfer gas, liquid, or solid from the bulk gas emission into the liquid-are described.
