A study was conducted to find a new polymeric adsorbent for removal and recovery of phenol from aqueous solution. Vinylpyridine-divinylbenzene copolymer was found to have an excellent capacity for removing phenol. The breakthrough capacity of the copolymer with /sup 1/m ls /sup 1/x 1 ppm leakage in the effluent was higher than that observed with porous styrene-divinylbenzene resins with no ion exchange functional group.
