(e,p) and (e,. cap alpha. ) reactions in /sup 90/Zr and /sup 92/Zr

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. C; (United States)

The yields of protons and ..cap alpha.. particles from 2 mg/cm/sup 2/ targets of /sup 90/Zr and /sup 92/Zr have been measured in the incident electron energy range 20--100 MeV; the /sup 90/Zr(e,p) and /sup 90/Zr(e,..cap alpha..) data were extended to 130 MeV. Photodisintegration plus electrodisintegration yields were also measured for electron energies above 50 MeV. The photodisintegration cross sections, derived from these data, rise continuously from 25 MeV onward for all four reactions. One satisfactory explanation of this phenomenon is that we are observing multiparticle emission following virtual photon absorption.
