The cross section for W production and decay into electron and neutrino was measured at the Fermilab Tevatron at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV. The integrated luminosity used for the study was 25.3 nb{sup {minus}1}. The author finds {sigma} (p{bar p} {yields} WX {yields} e{nu}X) = 2.5 {plus minus} 0.6 (stat) {plus minus} 0.5 (syst) nb. The author fits the transverse mass distribution from the W candidates to Monte Carlo calculations to find M{sub w} = 79.5 {plus minus} 2.9 (stat) {plus minus} 2.4 (syst) GeV. The cross section agrees with theoretical predictions, and the mass measurement agrees with W mass values quoted by the UA1 and UA2 experiments at CERN.
