The Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, having considered the same, reports favorably an original bill, to provide for a viable domestic uranium industry, to establish a program to fund reclamation and other remedial actions with respect to mill tailings at active uranium and thorium sites, to establish a wholly-owned Government corporation to manage the Nation's uranium enrichment enterprise, operating as a continuing, commercial enterprise on a profitable and efficient basis, and for other purposes, and recommends that the bill do pass. The purpose of the Uranium Revitalization, Tailings Reclamation and Enrichment Act of 1987, as reported by the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, is to ensure an adequate long-term supply of domestic uranium and enrichment capacity for the Nation's nuclear power program.
