Spatially parallel architectures for industrial robot vision

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5364414

Spatially parallel computing systems that contain thousands of processing elements have a well suited architecture for vision systems. Described is a simple spatially parallel architecture that employs direct visual input and will be capable of being integrated onto a single chip of silicon within the decade. The architecture can determine basic shapes, such as square or triangular, and can determine the number of holes in an object or the number of cavities or inlets in the object. It is able to segment an input image that contains many objects. Algorithms that involve brightness also can be executed. 8 references.
