We report the computation of electron energy bands of the intermetallic compounds BaRh{sub 2} and LaRu{sub 2}. The energy bands were determined using the self-consistent linear muffin-tin-orbital method. The band-structure results were primarily used to calculate the electron-phonon coupling constant in order to explain the superconducting behavior. Further, the conduction bandwidth, electronic specific heat coefficient, and Pauli paramagnetic susceptibility obtained using the band-structure results are also reported. These results are compared with previously reported values for compounds of similar structure.
