Multi-fuel optimization in boilers

Conference · · Energy Technol. (Wash., D.C.); (United States)
OSTI ID:5363773
The most efficient utilization of many fuels in generation plants can be obtained by application of some type of optimizing technique. In computers, with a mathematical model describing the furnace response behavior, a series of graphic charts may be used. For the mathematic model, the combustion efficiency versus load relationship for each boiler involved must be determined. Optimal solution may become increasingly complex depending on the boilers. A dual boiler-dual fuel utilities system is set up as a hypothetical model. An economic dispatch optimization procedure is run. Optimal point is achieved when the incremental steam production costs for all boilers are the same. Several more sophisticated algorithms are also suggested.
