The authors present the surface morphology of YBCO films deposited by laser ablation, optimization procedure to obtain epitaxial films with good surface quality. The optimization of the surface morphology of the films can be performed by carefully controlling the laser power to determine the growth rate and the homogeneity of films can be improved by rotating the ablating laser beam. These methods allow one to obtain high quality films with the transition width less than 1K, T{sub c} of more than 90K and J{sub c} more than 10{sup 6}A/cm{sup 2} at 77K. The optimized films were used to fabricate an 8-element high T{sub c} superconducting microbolometer array patterned by ion beam milling. Each element of the array has a structure of microbridge with the size of 20 {times} 100{micro}m{sup 2}. The optical response characteristics of the microbolometer array were investigated in the region of 8--14{micro}m. The average noise equivalent power (NEP) was 3.1 {times} 10{sup {minus}12}WHz{sup {minus}1/2}, the average normalized detectivity (D*) was 1.44 {times} 10{sup 9}cmHz{sup 1/2}W{sup {minus}1} and the nonuniformity of D* was less than 10%.
