Forecast of domestic crude oil prices. [1973 to 1980]

In early 1973, it was forecast that U.S. domestic crude oil prices would increase sharply between 1972 and 1980, with Gulf Coast 34/sup 0/ API crude oil going from $3.63/bbl in 1972 to $6.10/bbl in 1980; by the end of 1973, the 1980 prices had in effect already arrived. Similarly, costs of Middle East Crude oil (34/sup 0/ API and 1.3% sulfur) delivered in the U.S. Gulf Coast were projected to rise from $3.45/bbl in 1972 to $4.80 to $5.60/bbl by 1980.
