Neutron-proton scattering. II. Spin correlation parameter A/sub y/y(theta) at 50 MeV

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., C; (United States)
We report on our remeasurement of the n-p scattering observable A/sub y/y(theta), in which 50 MeV (lab) polarized neutrons were scattered from a polarized proton target. Several improvements to the target system have enabled us to greatly reduce the normalization uncertainty in A/sub y/y, compared to our earlier measurement. Incorporating these results in a phase shift analysis yields the results delta-bar (/sup 1/P/sub 1/) =-6.4/sup 0/ +- 1.1/sup 0/ and epsilon-bar=3.6/sup 0/ +- 1.0/sup 0/, where epsilon-bar/sub 1/ is the /sup 3/S/sub 1/-/sup 3/D/sub 1/ mixing parameter.
