Solar power system and component research. Construction and proof testing of the Martin Marietta--Georgia Tech bench model solar heated steam boiler

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5358455
During the period January to November 1974, the Martin Marietta Corporation, Denver Division and the Engineering Experiment Station at the Georgia Institute of Technology were engaged in design of a solar central receiver electrical generating system under National Science Foundation Grant GI-41305. Georgia Tech has operated as a subcontractor to Martin Marietta during this period. The program has progressed to the stage that a commercial scale design concept and a detailed Bench Model boiler-superheater design have been completed. The next stage is construction of the Bench Model boiler-superheater and accessory equipment and proof testing of the assembled system. Following this work, it is planned that the Bench Model apparatus will be transported to the 1000 kW Solar Furnace operated by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in France; there CNRS and United States investigators will conduct operational tests. This proposal requests follow-on support for construction and proof testing of the Bench Model system.
