HECTR analysis of hydrogen burns in PWR large dry containments

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5358070
Containment gas thermal response and equipment temperature response to hydrogen burns in a large dry containment have been calculated using the HECTR computer code. The Three Mile Island Unit 2 (TMI-2) accident and three small break loss of coolant accidents (LOCAs) were analyzed. The HECTR calculated pressures due to hydrogen burning during the TMI-2 accident were within 10% of the pressures measured during the accident. The calculated LOCA pressures briefly exceeded pressures to which safety related equipment is qualified. Equipment temperatures never exceeded the temperature to which equipment is qualified.
