Title: Cementing of geothermal wells. progress report No. 5, April--June 1977

Technical Report ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/5357951· OSTI ID:5357951

Previous tests indicate that at temperatures above 218/sup 0/C only polymer cements (PC) materials containing mixtures of silica sand and portland cement are durable to brine and steam. Ir spectroscopic studies gave evidence of chemical bonding between the CaO and -CH/sub 2/ groups in the vinyl monomers. Similar effects were not noted when SiO/sub 2/, Fe/sub 2/O/sub 3/, and Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ were used as the aggregate. Work to develop high temperature polymer formulations is continuing. (JGB)
