This invention relates in general to a lithium electrochemical cell and in particular, to a lithium electrochemical cell including lithium as the anode, non-stoichiometric (ns)-V/sub 6/0/sub 13/ as the cathode, and a solution and a solution of lithium salt in a mixed organic solvent of a non-aqueous aprotic solvent and a dialkyl carbonate as the electrolyte. The general object of this invention is to provide an improved lithium electrochemical cell including ns-V/sub 6/0/sub 13/ as the cathode active material. A more-particular object of the invention is to provide an intercalating solvent system for ns-V/sub 6/0/sub 13/ that produces high-energy lithium cells.
