The article discusses some of the problems encountered and a means for meeting the requirements of IEEE Standard 323-1974 in demonstrating qualification of switch-gear for safety-related applications in nuclear power-generating stations. The switchgear assemblies are subjected to a number of tests (e.g., service conditions, seismic conditions, life, and aging), which are reported and evaluated in a Qualification Summary Report. The article contains recommendations for maintenance, inspection, and testing.
