With the intention of application to fuel injector valve subassemblies joining process improvement, the effects of pulse shapes and pulse repetition rate variation on the welding quality of stainless steel test pieces have been investigated by utilizing the newly developed, pulse-energy controlled, high-power Nd:YAG laser welding system M806-A. Drastic hot cracking reduction effects have been observed with tailing-post pulse added novel pulse shape. Roundness deterioration of ring sub-assembly during perimeter seam welding has been remarkably reduced by increasing pulse repetition rate up to as high as 90pps.
