Patent ·
OSTI ID:5355135
This patent describes a process for the production of a porous monolithic graphite electrode for a fuel cell having an integral edge seal comprising the impregnation of a porous filter paper substrate having a thickness of from 0.5 to 5 mm with a low coke yield impregnant, curing the impregnated electrode from 2 to 24 hours in air at 150/sup 0/C. to 300/sup 0/C.,baking the electrode in a 4 to 24 hour cycle rising to 500/sup 0/C. to 1100/sup 0/C., impregnating the electrode on the edges only with a medium to high coke yield impregnant, repeating the curing and baking steps, and graphitizing the electrode to 1800/sup 0/C to 3000/sup 0/C. in a cycle of 4 hours to 4 days.
