LC science tracer bullet: alcohol fuels

Book ·
OSTI ID:5355016
Current shortages and high prices of petroleuem products have combined to accelerate the investigation of alternate fuels for internal-combustion engines, especially those used in automotive vehicles. One substance in which there has been a great deal of interest is alcohol; whether in the form of ethanol (grain alcohol) or methanol (wood alcohol), it may be used alone to power an automobile or may be combined in a blend of 10% alcohol and 90% gasoline. Blends of gasoline with ethanol or methanol are popularly called gasohol. The idea and practice of using alcohol as an automotive fuel are not new, as attested to by the dates of publication of many of the books and reports included in this compilation. This guide is intended for those who wish to study the subject of alcohol fuels through a review of the literature in the collections of the Library of Congress. Not meant to be a comprehensive bibliography, it is designed - as the name of the series implies - to put the reader on target.
