A mysterious electrical outage at the Hudson Generating Station's Unit No. 2 on August 30, 1979 resulted in damage to the unit and no clear explanation of the cause. The response of Public Service Electric and Gas Company personnel in assessing and repairing the damage is described. Teams of repair crews, including those who spent several weeks rewinding the copper coils, required seven months and nearly $20 million to return the unit to service. (DCK)
