Due to the emerging dieselization of U.S. built passenger car and light duty vehicles, a fuel injection system products program was begun, emphasizing the latest technology for lower cost system equipment that is fully compatible with demands of the automotive industries. The system concept primarily revolves around the Hartford Division's distributor type fuel injection pumps, pencil nozzles and fuel filters and separators. Most notable among the new developments is the DB2 pump which in its automotive version is standard on the General Motors 5.7 litre (350 cu. in.) diesel being offered in the 1978 model year as a power option in the Oldsmobile Delta 88 and 98, the Chevrolet and GMC half-ton pickups, and in the mid-model year Cadillac Seville. Target '78 production of this V-8 diesel, rated 120 hp at 3600 rpm, is about 105,000 units, all being produced in the Oldsmobile Lansing, MI works.
