It has been shown that in the cell wall of Y. pseudotuberculosis there are two forms of lipopolysaccharide-protein complex with different buoyant densities - 1.43 and 1.40 g/cm/sup 3/. These forms have identical qualitative monosaccharide, fatty acid, and polypeptide composition but differ in the length of the O-specific chain. The differences in density are due to different amounts of the main components of the complex. The two forms contain related antigenic determinants but have some differences in their antigenic structure. The capacity of the two forms for giving a hybrid form with a density of 1.41 g/cm/sup 3/ has been shown.
