It is noted that the ZGS was responsible not only for the beginning of excellent high energy experimental research in the midwest, but also for the establishment of a high energy theory group whose size and stature has grown steadily. With the starting of the ZGS and the growth of the experimental program, Argonne became a central place for many theorists. Such activities as the summer visitors program, one day topical symposia, lecture series etc., were instituted and they created an exciting and stimulating atmosphere.
