Electronic field permeameter

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5343458
This patent describes a method of measuring the permeability of a rock formation in the filed by operating a portable minipermeameter. The minipermeameter including a source of pressurized gas; a manually positionable injection tip including a resilient sealing member for directing the pressurized gas to flow into the rock formation; a portable instrument package connected to the injection tip via a flexible hose, The portable instrument package including at least one electronic flow controller. The method comprising the steps of: manually positioning the injection tip at a selected location on the rock formation and manually pressing the resilient sealing member into contact with a surface of the rock formation at the selected location; operating the input device to enter the command to initiate the performance of a permeability measurement; removing the resilient sealing member from the surface of the rock formation when the output means indicates that the permeability measurement has been completed; and viewing the calculated value of permeability indicated by the output means.
