Early use of solar energy in buildings: a study of barriers and incentives to the widespread use of solar heating and cooling systems
Section I of this report presents the principal findings, outlines the methodology, and presents the results of a national survey of the early users of the technology. It also outlines the utilization processes of the first wave of building industry professionals who have used solar technology in satisfying their clients' demand for environmental conditioning in buildings. It describes the use of the technology and implementation of the knowledge in the building process. A summary structure of incentives is also presented. Section II presents the results of life cycle cost analyses of fifteen selected solar heating projects, as well as a general overview of the various economic factors relating to the commercialization of solar technology. Section III presents a regulatory analysis of sun rights and land use, building codes, warranties of performance, rights to energy, and the implications of these rights.
