CANDU nuclear reactor and process heat: Canadian experience and recent new developments

Journal Article · · Am. Soc. Mech. Eng., (Pap.); (United States)
OSTI ID:5341265
For over eight years, the largest heavy water production plants in the world have operated from process steam supplied directly from the CANDU nuclear generating units at Ontario Hydro's Bruce Nuclear Power Development (BNPD). By 1987, there will be eight CANDU power reactors operating at this site, each with a capability of supplying 800 MW(e) of electricity plus an additional 13% of full rated output for process steam. The development of co-generation is described at the Bruce Nuclear Power Development as a major part of the government and utility off-oil program. 2 refs.
