Precise planning, careful training of rig crews and supervisory personnel, and astute application of currently available technology and equipment have enabled Hamilton Brothers Oil and Gas, Ltd., to establish enviable new records for drilling from a semi-submersible rig in the North Sea. Time-saving efforts have cut non-productive operational time by 76%, decreased overall time for drilling a well by 50%, and reduced per-well costs on the order of $4 million. Application of similar practices to subsea completion operations now allows a well to be finaled, ready to produce, in 25 days.
