High purity isobutene via MTBE decomposition

The exploitation of C/sub 4/ streams to get high valued products is presently very advanced; among these products, MTBE and Butene-1 are extensively used on the international market. Now another technology has reached the industrial application, i.e. the High Purity Isobutene (H.P. Isobutene Production) via MTBE decomposition. This technology, developed by SNAMPROGETTI, is an alternative to other currently used technologies, like the extraction by sulphuric acid and the dehydration of TBA (Tert-Butyl-Alcohol). The advantages of the SNAMPROGETTI High Purity Isobutene technology are: 1) freedom from needing a supply of the intermediate Tertiary-Butyl-Alcohol, which supply is limited because it is obtained exclusively as a by-product of Propylene Oxide synthesis, via Isobutene peroxydation; 2) the absence of pollution and corrosion problems, particularly when compared with the acid extraction process.
