New neutron deficient nuclei near mass number A = 80

Conference · · AIP Conf. Proc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5337564
Gamma-ray spectra of the new neutron deficient nuclei /sup 80/Zr, /sup 79/Y, and /sup 80/Y have been measured in coincidence with the evaporation residues identified according to their Z- and A-values with the Munich heavy ion recoil spectrometer in the reaction /sup 24/Mg+/sup 58/Ni. The relative cross sections can be explained with the assumption that the protons and alpha-particles evaporate from strongly deformed compound states. A comparison of the signature splitting of the tentative yrast band of /sup 79/Y with the rotational bands K = 5/2 in neighbouring nuclei, suggest a low ..gamma..-deformation for /sup 79/Y and /sup 77/Sr relative to /sup 81/Y, /sup 79/Sr, /sup 75/Kr and /sup 77/Kr.
