Spectroscopy of the transitional A = 96--98 nuclei; New region of fast first forbidden transitions

Conference · · AIP Conf. Proc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5337453
Absolute ..gamma..-intensities have been measured for the strong transitions in the decay chain /sup 98/Rb..-->../sup 98/Sr..-->../sup 98/Zr and /sup 98/Nb..-->../sup 98/Mo and found approx. =4 times higher than those currently adopted. Shape coexistence is established in /sup 98/Y with a J/sup ..pi../ = 1/sup -/ ''spherical'' ground state and with a previously reported deformed band with band-head at 495.7 keV. A fast first-forbidden ..beta..-transition is observed between /sup 98/Y/sup g/ and /sup 98/Zr/sup g/, which alongside with the previously reported /sup 96/Y/sup g/..-->../sup 96/Zr/sup g/ decay forms a new region, other than /sup 208/Pb and /sup 16/O, of such fast transitions.
