Method of evaluating fracturing fluid performance in subsurface fracturing operations

This paper describes a method of determining parameters of a full scale fracture treatment of a subterranean formation. The method comprising the steps of: injecting fluid into a wellbore penetrating the formation to generate a fracture in the formation; measuring the pressure of the fluid in the fracture over time wherein the pressure changes after termination the fluid injection; determining at least one parameter of a two dimensional fracture geometry model from the change in pressure measured using an energy balance relationship which includes a pressure gradient term defined using measured rheological parameters; calculating fracture half width; and predicting fluid volume required for a full scale fracture treatment using parameters determined.
