We have calculated configuration-mixing {ital LS}-coupling and intermediate-coupling cross sections for the process of resonant transfer excitation followed by x-ray stabilization in collisions of the Li-like ions S{sup 13+}, Ca{sup 17+}, Ti{sup 19+}, V{sup 20+}, Ni{sup 25+}, and Ge{sup 29+} with H{sub 2} and He. Fine-structure interactions preferentially enhance the {ital KLL} peak (by up to 35% for S{sup 13+}) over the {ital KLn} ({ital n}{gt}{ital L}) peak (+5%), and this largely resolves the discrepancy that exists between theoretical {ital LS}-coupling calculations and experiment over the relative height of the two peaks for the case of Ca{sup 17+}+H{sub 2}.
