Growth of single crystals of oxide vanadium bronzes

The authors study the conditions for the growth of single crystals of vanadium oxide bronzes M /SUB x/ V/sub 2/O/sub 5/ by the Bridgman method in air. Using that method, the authors grow single crystals of the monoclinic oxide vanadium bronzes M /SUB x/ V/sub 2/O/sub 5/-beta (where M = Li, Na, K, Cu, Ag, or Ca) and the new hexagonal bronze Rb /SUB 0.36/ V/sub 3/O/sub 7/. The single crystals obtained have been studied with the aid of x-rays and their unit cell parameters have been determined.
