Particulate emissions of a dual fuel caterpillar 3208 engine

The particulate emissions of a normally aspirated Caterpillar 3208 diesel engine have been determined for operation on dual fuel (diesel/natural gas) using steady state test procedures. These results have been compared to diesel only operation. For peak loads the particulate emissions are considerably decreased on dual fuel (up to 90% reduction). At light loads the particulate emissions are comparable on either fuel. The particulate emissions show a strong dependence on the mass flow rate of diesel fuel used in the combustion process.
