Drag reducers boost crude-line throughput

Journal Article · · Oil Gas J.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5323109
Recent developments of drag-reducing agents allow flow-rate improvements in crude-oil pipelines by reducing drag due to turbulence at the pipe wall. Their ability to achieve higher throughputs on relatively short notice gives the pipeliner an alternative to adding horsepower or pipeline looping. A discussion is presented of the results of using drag-reducing agents on a large scale in the Trans Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS). 1 ref.
