This patent describes a method for monitoring the drilling process while drilling a borehole through subsurface formations with a drill bit. The method comprising the steps of: generating a signal indicative of the torque applied to the drill bit in the drilling process; and distinguishing between argillaceous, porous and tight formations and generating an indication thereof in response to the signal indicative of torque.
