Determination of thorium-228, thorium-230, and thorium-232 in sediments by anion exchange and nuclear spectrometry

A method is described for the determination of /sup 228/Th, /sup 230/Th, and /sup 232/Th in sediments. The analytical protocol employs direct determination of /sup 228/Th by high-resolution ..gamma..-ray spectrometry. Isotopic ratios are determined by ..cap alpha..-particle spectrometric assay of the thorium fraction purified by a simple anion-exchange technique. Three sediment and soil reference materials when analyzed by the described method gave results in general agreement with the certified values. 21 references, 3 figures, 1 table.
