Arab oil-producing states of the Gulf: political and economic developments. [Monograph]

Book ·
OSTI ID:5317105
Fifteen articles examine the economic and political situations in the oil-producing countries of the Persian Gulf, which accounts for half of the total world oil exports and 45% of the proven reserves. US economic interests center on oil, but also include some trade and finance considerations. Political interests seek to balance oil prices and supply vulnerability. The articles report on a series of studies commissioned by the American Enterprise Institute in 1979 to analyze economic, political, and security developments since the early 1970s. Individual country studies of Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates are followed by analyses of economic linkages and a review of security risks. 52 references, 1 figure, 8 tables.
