The US Department of Energy Office of Industrial Programs conducts industrial energy conservation research and development activities. These activities are focused on achieving the objectives of improving energy use efficiency and providing for fuel flexibility within US industry. To accomplish these objectives the Office has adopted the basic strategy of identifying, in cooperation with private industry the technological needs for energy conservation in the industrial sector; identifying what private industry is currently doing or will not do alone; selecting the highest priority targets not being pursued by the private sector; and negotiating cost-shared contracts with private industry, or contracts with universities and government laboratories to carry out the necessary research. Research is developed to the point that the new technology has been proven to work and sufficient proof'' can be disseminated to the private sector end users. To date, the Office of Industrial Programs has supported over two hundred research and development projects covering a wide spectrum of industrial applications -- both generic conservation technologies and energy intensive processes unique to specific industries. Many of these efforts have resulted in the successful resolution of critical technical barriers faced by industry developing advanced energy conserving processes and technologies. This report contains summaries for currently active projects supported by the Office of Industrial Programs.
