OSTI ID:5314225
The Bureau of Mines is currently developing methods for reclaiming the metal and mineral values contained in unburned urban refuse. One important phase of the research deals with recovering plastics from shredded refuse using an electrodynamic process. The results of this study have indicated that mixed plastic concentrates analyzing 99.4 percent plastic can be consistently recovered from the light material fraction of shredded refuse, leaving a mixed paper fraction analyzing 99.9 percent paper. Recovery of the plastics exceeds 99 percent.
