The purpose of the Automated Transportation Management Systems (ATMS) Program is to identify possible applications for the use of electronic data interchange (EDI) and other computer Traffic Management applications within the US Department of Energy (DOE), Transportation Management Division (TMD). The ATMS Strategic Plan and Program Description has been prepared as a source document for use in guidance and planning for the implementation of EDI and other computer-related technologies in the DOE-TMD organization. The ATMS strategy and program description has been prepared as a source document for use in the guidance and planning for EDI and other computer-related technologies within the DOE-TMD transportation program. This strategy provides a structure for long-term computer resources investment planning. This document has been generated under the sponsorship of DOE-HQ TMD in order to provide a shared vision'' of the use of EDI and the development of ATMS so that the field offices and the site contractors can develop their own respective tactical and funding plans.
