The world's fourth largest producing country is ready with plans and work already underway for strong growth in the fields, in pipelines, processing, and export facilities for its crude oil, natural gas, and gas liquids. Operations in the S. fields have now reached a crucial, more complicated phase with the start of simultaneous 3-phase production of natural gas and gas liquids in addition to crude--which poses a considerable strain on field operations. This has called for a large number of new oil and gas facilities to be installed which increased total crude capacity to 3,883,000 bpd by end of 1969. An average of 3.4 million bpd is being supplied from approx. 175 wells to the Abadan and Tehran refineries or exported. A start is being made in the supply of up to 1,260 MMcfd into the IGAT pipeline to N. Iran and U.S.S.R. Up to 57,600 bpd of liquids obtained from this gas will be processed and exported. Last year the most notable production increase was that of light crude from Marun field which amounted to a 37.4% rise over the year. With a length of about 70 miles and the largest oil column, Marun is one of the 2 biggest fields in the agreement area. A base map shows the measured developments in the oil and gas pipelines, proved oil fields, processing, and export facilities in SW. Iran.
