Experimental investigations of explosive consolidation of 2024A1 and 2024A1+1 wt% Li alloy powders are described. The effects on powder consolidation of explosive detonation speed, explosive shell thickness, explosive column length, explosive container, powder packing density, powder container thickness, and the use of a core rod are discussed. Crack-pattern analysis as related to the shock-rarefaction interactions and computer modeling of explosive compaction is presented.
