  1. Inland Steel Co., East Chicago, IN (USA)
Drawbead forces for different combinations of die bead materials and lubricants were determined using a laboratory drawbead tester. Experiments were performed over a range of speeds from 2 to 200 inches per minute. Soft die materials, cast iron, steel and hardened and chrome plated dies were included to simulate both soft tool tryouts and a variety of stamping plant conditions. Draw forces were determined for different types of sheet steels including cold-rolled, galvanized and galvannealed steels. The effects of sheet thickness, die clearance and die penetration were also studied.
