Positive displacement downhole motors and diamond compact bits reduce drilling costs in overthrust wells

Conference · · Soc. Pet. Eng. AIME, Pap.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5310716
Recent technological advancements made in synthetic diamond bits, coupled with positive displacement downhole mud motor technology now enable operators to use these two products and technologies in deep overthrust wells to reach total depth in fewer days at lower cost per foot. Straight-hole drilling programs using high speed, low torque motors and synthetic/natural diamond bits have been economically utilized in a number and variety of well types in the Overthrust belt.
